Want to know everything there is to know about pinups? Don't want to scramble all around the net for bits and pieces? Here is a list of the 3 top sites that are the authority of the pinup realm.

We all like to have our ducks in a row, when it comes to information. If you're a pinup lover, you probably want more than Wikipedia has to offer and less than a Google search does. That's why I decided to compile this list of sites. These are the sites I go to, when I need my pinup information straightened out.

The History of the Pinup
Pinup history is short, but opulent. It is mostly post-modern and gets richer as time passes, and illustration art is thriving. It already went into it's second and third mutations, moving to comic art and cartoons. (Some may argue that these have existed ever since comics and cartoons existed. I say now there are comic book artists and animators, who specialize in pinup art.)

In order to understand pinup art, you must know it's origin. How it all came about? what was its predecessor? What the difference is between a 1920's pinup and a 1930's pinup? I don't have a favorite site, but these two (alongside Wikipedia, of course) are the best:

Cheesecake- The Art of the Pinup-
This site divides pinup art into its stages. It's a very informative summation of what pinup art is and its evolution through the years.

A World History of Art-
A small part of a much larger art history site. The Pinup Art History page covers pinup art from Paleolithic times, and gives up around 1970, when “Penthouse introduced the world to pubic hair in 1970 ”. This page also features a list of over thirty artists, which it covers in length.

Keeping up With the Pinup Artists
Pinup art is a part of pop culture. As such it is constantly changing. Of course the web has been responsible for a major revival of this retro art form. Now, there are artists (such as myself :D ) popping up all over the place! The web abundance has rendered many nameless. But as in all professions, the best climb to the top. Instead of scrambling to find each and every one, The Pinup Files is where you can find the best and the classic artists.

I have yet to find a good compilation site for modern pinup models. Your best bet is probably going to DeviantArt and typing 'Pinup' in the search box. It's a long tedious leaf through, so if anyone knows of a site that links to modern pinup models, please let us all know!
