Some say that pinups were a 40’s-50’s fad, which disappeared with the sexual revolution. I believe pinups, in their sensual yet none reviling form, are alive and kicking.
Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable, Ritta Heyworth (the list is long) we’re all documented in photographs, later to be printed out in magazines, postcards and calenders. These were considered glamor pinups, at the time- very different from the anonymous pinup, which would be found, more often, in men’s magazines (the kind deemed offensive). For this reason, exactly, I want to exhibit these specific shots, which could have been very much the anonymous cheesecake, if it hadn’t been for their famous silver screen face, gracing it.

The Classic Cheesecake isn’t Gone, She’s Just Got a Brand New Face

New glamor shots of actresses are being taken everyday. The twist is, you probably won’t find them in playboy or hustler, but in women’s and young women’s magazines like Cosmo, Seventeen and Marie Claire (Don’t even get me started on the meanings of this social transformation).
Although cover shots are mainly meant to grab your attention with boobs (either male or female this is a proven sales method), the whole of these photo shoots reveal a fascinating cheesecake heritage.
Whether it’s the props or the attitude, the fact that these women have to be fully clothed makes everyone in the production more creative. Then, we can really see interesting things emerge.
Retro Glamour Shots
Of course, now that pinups are back in vogue, we’re seeing some real pinup style shoots, the most famous being Vanity Fair’s retro cheesecake styles and glamor shots:

Whether It's a glamor head-shot, a modern shot with a retro twist or an actual pinup reenactment, Vanity Fair draws up some pretty pictures. It just shows what a little styling know-how and cheesecake research can do. I especially liked the set of pictures done with a few budding young starlets (Clock-wise, from the left: Isla Fisher, Wedding Crashers. Hayden Panettiere, television series Heroes. Rachael Taylor, Transformers. Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Grindhouse. Picture taken from Catwalk Queen.), keeping it clean, simple and sweet.)Hayden Panettiere- The Perfect Cheesecake

I figured I’d take this opportunity to say a word about this budding starlet. Mostly known for her role as Claire Bennett, in the NBC science fiction drama series Heroes, Hayden Panettiere is already a favorite modern pinup. Panettiere embodies very distinct pinup qualities: She’s, of course, beautiful, but in a juvenile way (the IT look for today, pioneered by Britney Spears and Katie Holmes), which gives her look the touch of innocence. On the other hand, she doesn’t lack in sex-appeal. But there’s something else about the way Panettiere photographs, she doesn’t really have to be in pinup couture to remind me of pinup.
I hope to see Panettiere in many more pinup-styled shoots.
